Where has time gone? I officially have a 9 month old, a new minimed revel pump, an omnipod (2 pumps?), the summer's pretty much over, and we got a house. I think that sums it up.
The baby is getting so big. He's trying to walk. He climbs up EVERYTHING. Babbles constantly - says mama, dada, baba, and wow. He still only has the 2 bottom teeth he got at 3 months and is cute as can be. He can crawl faster than I can walk, loves all food *majority adult food* except baby mac n cheese and is happy about 99.5 percent of the time. He's a good baby and we are extremely blessed. Best of all ... Do I dare say it? he LOVES to sleep. From 11pm until 10am ... daily. Plus 2-3 naps a day. :-)
on to the pumps? I officially am back to being a minimed pumper and couldnt be happier. I actually kept the omni pod also to use when I don't want tubing or am wearing clothing that just doesn't work with the tubing. And even though the summer is ending it's Fantastic for swimming! Now It's time to be approved for my cgm. I have an endo appointment in hopes that my dr. will sign off on the paperwork as that's all that we're waiting for.
Summer's almost over and I'm thrilled! I have the heat, it makes me absolutely miserable. I'll miss the beach but I love the fall. I love sweaters and leaves and changing colors and being comfortable! The only real thing that i'll miss is swimming. I'm a huge water fan and would swim all day every day if possible.
And the house ... of well WE didn't buy a house, but my brother and his girlfriend did. They bought a gorgeous duplex and we're going to take the one side and pay them rent while they take the other. There's a huge yard, 2 car garage, beautiful front porch, 2 bedrooms on our side - 3 on theirs. I am beyond excited to get out of this itty bitty apartment where we have no space. Hopefully we'll be moving on or around november 15th.
also head on over to The Gluten-Free Homemaker for an awesome giveaway. You won't be sorry! :-)
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass...It's about learning to dance in the rain.

911, omnipod, and a battery cap?
so to start my minimed pump's battery cap was definitely the issue. it seems like the little metal clip inside the top of the cap was broken so my pump wasn't registering my batteries and then when it did turn on with the brand new batteries i was using at least 1 a day. so it was a pretty easy fix, minimed overnight-ed me a new cap and we were all fixed!
even though the pump was fixed i think it's really important to have an in warranty pump just in case something like this happens again so i did apply for omnipod and dexcom. as of right now i know that my dexcom was approved but other than that i haven't heard anything else from the company. on the other hand omnipod is amazingly fast and efficient. i faxed the paperwork last Monday and by Friday (only because my Dr didn't fax the paper work to omnipod until Wednesday) i had my new pump. unfortunately I'm thinking that this may not be the pump for me. i seem to have absolutely no sensitivity to insulin anymore and am using massive amounts of insulin daily (around 150 units/day.) since i use so much insulin and omnipod only holds 200 units and you can't refill a pod (with animas and minimed i leave my site in for 2 reservoirs worth of insulin) it seems like i'm changing my site constantly. in a matter of 3 days, between going through insulin and sites not sticking i went through 4 pods. plus i had one that just wouldn't activate for some reason. i know omnipod will replace the ones that won't activate and/or fall off but they won't do anything about my consumption of insulin (obviously that's my issue not theirs.) on the other hand i really like the omnipod. it's awesome not having to find a place to put the physical pump on my body and i LOVE the manual insertion. i think that has to be my most favorite thing about the pump. it's so pain free and easy. i wish that they would come up with a pod that holds a larger amount of insulin. but i'm thinking that tomorrow i'll be calling their customer service to discuss my options.
on a completely different note Sunday night we took the baby to the er because he didn't seem to be feeling OK. they did a chest x-ray, said he had an upper respiratory infection, and sent us on our way. Monday morning i had my wisdom teeth out and was on so much Vicodin that big Torry and my mom took care of the baby all day for me. Tuesday morning when I woke up he wasn't acting right. I felt like we should just be safe and head to the doctors to double check everything. After I got him to the doctor's they ended up calling 911 and took the two of us to the children's hospital in Buffalo about a hour away. At this point ... we're still here. until about 6pm tonight he was on complete oxygen and nebulizer treatments hourly. his poor little body has been so tired out from trying to breath, it's heartbreaking. they're not sure what happened or what's wrong but it looks like he probably got some sort of infection along side a respiratory issue (like asthma - but they won't call it asthma since he's only 7 months.) after being here two nights i'm hoping tomorrow they'll let him go home. the poor baby just wants to crawl and he can't when he's attached to a ton of different tubes and monitors. please say a prayer that he handles the night well and that they let us head home tomorrow!

Omnipod and Dexcom
My pump has been out of warranty since last august. I've waited and waited to order a new one. I know my insurance will cover it but I was hoping something awesome would be approved in the states. Now I can't wait any more. I think my pump is dying ... she's sucking through batteries like crazy. So I took the plunge and filled out the forms today for an omnipod and a dexcom. I'm so worried about getting the omnipod ... what if i lose the pda??? will i miss my tubing??? i've been going back and forth for a few days and then today when I went to leave my house and the tube to my minimed got caught on the door knob i decided it would be worth it. I'm not nervous about the dexcom ... I've known for a long time that I wanted it, I just needed to stop being lazy. Hopefully all of this will be approved asap and I'll have my new pump and cgm soon. Any advice for either???
Here's the lil man ... he'll be 7 months tomorrow!

surprise, surprise ...
I've decided that I'm not a good blogger ... I'm busy and forgetful. I forget to blog, but i do read everyone's posts. Often I come up with lots to say but feel I need to censor myself so I don't post at all. I disappear for days on end and then reappear at the most random moments. I write about completely uninteresting things and don't have a general "idea" of what I always post about. But I guess that's the point of a blog? I'm supposed to be able to come and go as I please, right? And I should be able to write what I'd like, I mean I'm not forcing anyone to read it, right? But I want people to read, and to comment, and to enjoy my blog. Maybe I need to switch things up ... become more focused? ... I'm thinking only time will tell.
Anyway ...
I went shopping w/ my mom, sister, and baby the other weekend. We got down the road and Torry text me to say I forgot my pump ... again. I am sooooooo bad about reconnecting after I shower! I try and put it somewhere that I won't forget it but never the less I often do. So I spent the day with the good old bag of needles I keep in my purse. Yuck. I'm really not a fan of needles, I think I'll keep my pump.
And speaking of the pump ...
My warranty has been up since August. I haven't gotten a new pump and I'm a little bit worried that something will happen to this one. Sooooo, it's time to get a new one. But which pump? Which company? Animas? Minimed? (which I have now) Omnipod? Any ideas or opinions are GREATLY appreciated!
And of course there's no way I can end without a baby update. He's getting so big. He'll be four months old on april 8th and he's thriving. So happy and content, though he's already started a little bit of teething. Oh and I'm paranoid that he's diabetic. But I think that I've done a pretty good job of keeping my paranoia tame. I've only checked his tiny little heel twice in the last almost 4 months. He smiles all of the time and has the cutest little laugh!!!
This is one of his 3 month pictures that I took <3

brrrr ... and a winner?!?!
It is absolutely freezing here in western ny. I'm not a huge fan of taking the baby out in the cold but the worst part is that his little hands are never warm. For some reason his body temp stays around 96 degrees and very rarely seems to climb above that. I try and keep him as warm as possible with fuzzy fleece jammies and outfits that have sweaters and sweatshirts but along with all of that he has to wear socks on his hands. He gets so frustrated because he likes to put his entire hand in his mouth but when he has socks on he can't get his little hand in his mouth lol. Either way he's absolutely adorable, just wish he'd stay warmer!

New and Improved, plus a give-away!
I've been m.i.a for quite a while now. My old blog, thediabeticprincess hasn't been working since right before I had the baby. I'm not sure why it doesn't work but for some reason I'm not able to log in or post. :-( So the only solution was to create a brand spanking new blog. Unfortunately it'll take me a few days to get it up and running like it should and of course get it all pretty-a-fied ;-), but no worries, it'll get there soon!
Of course I'm sure you'd all love to know what has been keeping me so busy ... the easiest way to tell you all about that would be by a picture, so here ya'll go -
Baby Torry! - finally :-D he made his appearance on Dec, 8, 2010 at 5:42 pm. The handsome lil man was 7 pounds 7 ounces and 21 1/2 inches long. I'll def be posting more pics and more about him soon!
But until then ...

Ok and up for grabs we have -
To start not posted are containters of glucose tabs of all different flavors that were donated by Relion, we all need glucose tabs don't we? Especially ones that taste good!
Next we have an awesome cookbook called, Diabetes snacks, treats, and east eat for kids. This was donated by Agate Publishing and is a pretty awesome cookbook. It's super easy for kids to make (with the help of an adult) and it has some really good recipes in it. Best part about it? It has the carbs listed for EVERY recipe.
Next we have a pair of diabetic fuzzy socks/foot warmers. Elly over at Unique Sewing Boutique was nice enough to donate a pair of these for me to give a way and a pair for me to try myself! I must say they're really nice and extremely comfortable on my tootsies!
And last but not least we have two awesome pump packs hand made by Malorie. Both packs are super cute *boy or girl would like* They're stretchy and soft but sturdy at the same time!
So that's it for now .... enter away and we'll get this pretty awesome prize pack out to someone soon!
